Batter Line Up Chart
When I coach the little ones, I keep it really simple and have them bat in their number order. For me, I like to have them sit in order, so they can see when it is their turn and “kinda” pay attention to who is next. I say “kinda” because let’s be honest they are little and we are calling them up half the time. But for me, it helps me see who is next for quick call up of batters.
When I coach the older players or in the age/league that is more competition of winning, I do want to have a little plan in play with batters. With this, I use my batter’s sheet where I can change up the numbers to match up the plan for the game. Then I just post this up in the dug out and the players can be responsible for themselves (and others) in getting their helmets on and on deck.
I do believe every player should get a turn batting first (at least this is how I feel the age of my kids. This may change as my oldest gets older, but right now it is good to rotate the kids on who goes first.
Fielding Map
One of the hardest things is getting kids out and into their spots until they get older and really understand the positions. SO to help with getting kids out on the field quickly AND not answering the question of “Where do I go now?” constantly, I made a simple fielding map. It is posted in the dug out along with the Batter Line Up. The players can look and see their positions before heading out on the field. In between innings, positions may change and/or new players are “benched” so I just tell the team to check their positions before heading out.
Snack Sign up Reminder Labels:
When I coached my oldest son’s tball team through the rec center, we had to ask parents to provide snacks. After having them sign up, I prepared these snack sign up labels and after a game, I put it on their hat as they were leaving. Why the hat? Because if I put the label on the shirt, it would go through the wash most likely. But a hat, it doesn’t get washed and very easily seen before a game or when it is floating around the house in between games.
Baseball Coach Clipboard:
As a coach, you need to be organized. Well, that’s my opinion. ha ha ha
I use a coach clipboard (which was a batman one because I haven’t made a baseball one yet.)
On my clipboard (depending on the league), I have kept these important papers:
Rec League: Snack sign up, Reminder labels, Practice schedule/drills
City League: Practice schedule/drills, after game awards mark off page, player positions schedule (to insure all players get in all positions)
