For awhile there, my middle two (boy and girl) were obsessed with Ninjago. They watched and played Ninjago 24/7. It was no surprise when my son asked to have a Ninjago party! We talked over cake ideas and he insisted on having a SPINJITZU cake. I had no idea how to make it spinjitzu. It was easy to get the characters, but to make the actual spinjitzu was a brain thinker. That didn’t stop me of course.
I knew it had to be made out of something strong not a frosting because I didn’t want the frosting to fall off of a cone. Plus the cone had to stand up on the point! After much thought, I decided, to give a candy recipe a try. I had silicone cones and paper cones from icees, so I tried both. The silicone was the better option for me because it didn’t stick to the hot and then cooled candy. We also use the silicone cones with our shaved ice goodies.
I cooked the candy to the temperature of hard candy, but I could have done slightly cooler and maybe it wouldn’t have broken so easily. I placed the cones upside down on foil, but wax paper probably would have worked well too. Very carefully (and quickly because it was cooling fast), poured the candy mixture on the cones trying to coat it completely. Before pouring, I added in a couple drops of food coloring. (I did not stir it.) As the candy cooled from no longer being on heat, it was hard to pour, but it did look pretty cool with the thicker pieces.
I was happy with the spinjitzu, and my son was ECSTATIC! I call that a WIN!
I actually made 4 total, but only 3 didn’t break when taking the cones out. After breaking off the flat parts to keep the cone shape, I was down to 2 cones.
Birthday boy is my sugar kid, so his cake was chocolate with mousse filling and then covered with mini chocolate chips (another thing he is obsessed with). Boy was he loving his cake. I think it was the best tasting cake for him. ha ha ha
I ordered the Ninjago characters for the display. My son picked who was on top and who was on the cake stand. Notice the blue Ninjago trying to cut into the cake… that was my son. 😂😂 I seriously love that kid. The spinjitzu’s were placed on the cake as well.
We also put out our toy spinjitzu’s because why not?!
And if you look closely, with a different view, you would see the red Ninja in his spinjitzu! It is all in the details. 😍
This was a simple cake, but it was admired and loved by my son and his friends! That is all that matters!
