“Where is Blue Bear?” written by Katie Specht is a perfect book for children that have a special attachment to a toy or a blanket.
First, I want to share how much I love the illustrations. They are so very cute! Seriously, Oliver is such a cutie.
Oliver loves his Blue Bear and brings him along everywhere he goes. His mom tries to prepare him for starting school by suggesting Blue Bear stays home for one outing. Oliver cannot handle that thought and continues to bring Blue Bear to his outings.
As toys do, Blue Bear got lost, and Oliver learns he is capable of going and doing things without Blue Bear. This was a good confidence booster for Oliver!
What I loved even more from the author, Katie Specht, is how she didn’t end the story that way. Oliver doesn’t just come to grips with not being able to take Blue Bear with him to school (and other places), but instead sees that Blue Bear has been there for him and now it was time for Blue Bear to be there for his younger brother. How sweet is that?!
What a great conversation starter to have with your children about not being able to take a favorite comfort toy or blanket with them places. This book helps open that communication. The conversation can even be led to discuss why Oliver decided to let his baby brother have Blue Bear. How does this gesture show how much he cares about his baby brother?
This book is a great story to help children prepare for leaving their special item at home once it is time to go to school. Seriously, such a great story to help a child grow and build their own confidence as they are getting older.
I am glad I found “Where is Blue Bear?” for my own children. My boys weren’t attached to anything, but my 3rd (my daughter) was extremely attached to her blanket. She needed her blanket anytime she cried, went on quick car rides and pretty much into any place. I didn’t know how to help her see she didn’t need her blanket.
This book has helped her grasp that she could handle life without needing her blanket always. She has not started kindergarten yet, but the transition will be much easier now! YAY!
This book is a wonderful addition to add to your collection! You can purchase it via Amazon here!
