I walked into Ulta and asked someone for help finding a purple lipstick that would NOT smear with a mask for our competition. She gave me a base lip and then a gloss to make the style I wanted. So excited we went home and tried it on. I should have tried it on with a mask. It was so pretty! Come competition day a couple weeks later and right before stage we discover it DOES SMEAR. Like big time! 😭 I cleaned it off the best I could and sent her on stage telling myself I would not use that again! What a disappointment. I asked someone I thought would know good lipstick and ended up with terrible smears before stage. 🤦🏻♀️ 😭
It had me thinking- what lipsticks are good and in what colors does it come with?!
Next, my daughter and I did a lipstick trial. ❤️ I wanted to know what would be good on a kid (good application and lasting) and is good with a mask. So she is doing the kid test and I am doing the mask test as a teacher.
Anytime the dancers are going on stage, awesome make up is a must!!
This COVID SEASON (2021) is upon us and fantastic lip stuff is essential with having to wear masks till they step on stage. 😳
Here is the I details I collected so we all can make the best decision for our dancers!
Cover Girl Outlast All-Day
PROS: I personally really like this stuff, I claiming it as good because most days it lasts really well! I love the calm/neutral colors.
Cover Girl Outlast glides on smoothly without making a mess. The top gloss is not a thick gloss, but the perfect gloss cover!
CONS: I think on application day I must have put too much on! It usually lasts better than this day even with my mask. But this day, it was spotted after 4 hours of a mask. 😞 So I am marking it as good because it obviously wasn’t the greatest one of the days.
Not that many color options and all are pretty simple and normal.
There are two tubes, so don’t forget your gloss tube! The colors are very calm, normal colors, which might not fit all dances!

Revlon Color Stay Overtime
PROS: This brand is another great alternative and this color is my new fave. 😉 It also glides on beautifully! The gloss is on the other side of the lip container which keeps them together! Yay! This gloss is glossy, but not sticky. Nothing is ruined with a mask on still!
Oooh I also love the more color options with this brand!
CONS: For me, there’s really nothing negative about it, but I feel the color mixes with a gloss a tiny bit with application of gloss. This doesn’t affect the great wear of it though!
These are still more basic color options. If you’re needing lips to stand out, this brand doesn’t carry unique options.

NYX Shine Loud
This stuff is new! One of my dance groups needed some STAND OUT lips! I checked the other two brands and there were not any that fit my team’s needs. 😩 Then I heard about this one!
PROS: Color variety! I love how they didn’t have just normal colors! The variety is fantastic for dancers! (Or anyone who likes a lil pop.) Once again there is fantastic color stay even with a mask!
Love how the color and the gloss are together! No getting separated!
For my little dancer, I am unsure how I feel about the applicator. It is wider and makes me nervous to apply and clean up the parts that get off the lips. I gotta be slow with this applicator. 🤪 However, the tip is super nice for getting the tiny parts of the lip. The more I use it the more I am starting to see it as a pro!
CONS: Ummmm, I don’t have any cons from my experience or my daughter’s.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid
PROS: The color options is fantastic because it has the normal colors, but also has dark and even bright colors! The variety is a nice go to.
This is a matte lipstick which means just one container for this lipstick look. The applicator is small/normal which is great for what we are used to.
This lipstick is vegan.
CONS: When looking over low reviews it appears that some have had issues with smearing, the quality of the mix being watery or the colors not bring 100 what it says it should be.
At first I was loving the color. Then I was told by my kindergarteners I looked funny when I lowered my mask to get a drink. I realized the rest of the day I could NOT take my mask off.
This pic shows you how it worked for us. 😂 My daughter was laughing when she saw me. 🤷🏻♀️👌🏼😂 It did not last on her either though even with a mask.
Kat Von D can be ordered on the KVB website or Amazon. This set on Amazon gives lots of colors at a good price. I wouldn’t recommend it with masks. 😉🤪
Maybelline Super Stay
This lipstick is a matte lipstick, so one applicator.
Cons: There are currently 40 shades available! Wow I just love the color options!
This lipstick has the flatter applicator with a point which means it reaches the thin parts of the lips. Which at first I was hesitant of, but now I really like it for applying into small lips and my inner lips too.
CONS: No gloss! Being I love shine, I don’t love the matte, but that’s just me.
The inside of my lips came off within 4 hours. It didn’t look bad unless I made kissy lips, but in normal talking it wasn’t too noticeable… I think. 😂 My first time trying this, my lips hurt pretty badly. I came home and removed it ASAP. I gave it another try and felt it was way too drying to keep. However, a friend of mine says it’s her go to! Make sure to use a good moisturizer before and after.

Glitter Lips
CONS: When your dancer needs lips to POP, Glitter Lips is fantastic. 😍 This stuff is straight glitter and with zero glitter falling on chin! Plus it’s comfortable even though it’s a glitter. 🙌🏼
The vibrant colors of the glitter is mesmerizing! Easy application of a glue gloss, dap on sparkles, then seal it!
When applying, the instructions suggests using a lip liner. You do NEED something underneath the glitter. 👌🏼

I have personally used this stuff for last couple years! There are definitely pros and cons, but it is a go to for me!
PROS: This stuff works and lasts! Lasts through masks, eating and long days! My pic after mask wasn’t super great for some reason, but I do love this product.
They also have over 50 colors and the way the application works you can mix them and get even more shades! Possibilities are endless.
True color! These colors are vibrant! I tried two other blacks and neither were the full black with no tint of purple!
CONS: There are several cons that you should know before. (Some are just good application helps 🥰 so then no longer a con 😉)
First, application is picky! You put three very thin applications. Thin- if you chunk it on, it won’t last nicely. This is no quick application because you need to let each layer dry. To seal it, put on the gloss. So you need 2 separate things for this. They are sold separately as well which is a con.
Lipsense is very drying and the gloss sinks into your lips at first! I LOVE the gloss. The gloss lasts longer once you’ve used it awhile or if you have well moisturized lips it doesn’t sink in so quickly. But that takes time and doesn’t matter much for a few competitions.
Another negative is that it burns some lips. It’s the alcohol in it. My daughter is NOT a fan of it and asks if it’ll hurt when I put lip stuff on. Me, I handle it fine and then it’s gone. But it still happens.
I do not like applying this to dance teams because many of mine had chapped lips and it just didn’t look good on them and they winced when we applied it. But my daughter has used the black under her glitter and done just fine with no big stinging frustration.
There are two applicators and you NEED the gloss so it’s not sticky. The price is pretty high too.
In order to buy this you need a Sengense Representative. Be wary of buying from Amazon and other places because I bought a cheaper one with same label and it was a significant different product quality.
