My daughter wanted a DANCE birthday party! So we looked at a variety of cake decorations. She loved the “tie dye” look. I had never done this before, so I was a bit nervous that I’d mess up color placement and amount of frosting for the spot. But what’s nice is she is always happy even I see the imperfections.
She picked her 3 favorite colors! Yo get these vibrant colors, you need a good food coloring. I had to throw away my pink one because it kept spilling on everything and had a strange taste. 😮😢 I was happy with how this pink turned out though!
I started with a white base and because my cake was too cold and frosting too thick, it was not wanting to work well at first. So the white had an ok finish, but really I was the only one that knew to look that closely. 😁
I started with the mindset of “Less is more.” Remember: you can always add more, but taking away is much harder!
I added spots and then used a scraper to make them slightly blend. After the first round, I wanted more colors, so I added more dots and scraped again.
Most things connected to Dance SPARKLE!!
So I found these cute sprinkles on Amazon and added them to the base of the cake! I just put sprinkles in my hand, and then pushed my hand up against the base and had the sprinkle stick on it. Then I wiped away the sprinkles that didn’t stick and reapplied them.
I thought the disco balls would be fun being our main activity was dancing with lights!! so that was a fun surprise for her! I found the disco balls on Amazon as well, and a set of four.
Honestly, the top was actually a mess up because I was trying to do a drip, but the melted chocolate was not dripping very pretty like. SOOO I scraped the drips off and just used the melted chocolate on the top. I actually LOVED the top look. Had a nice POP! ❤️
To make the top edges look nice with the melted chocolate, I just did little frosting drops with a basic frosting tip. Then I decided to add the pearls since I didn’t think all the flowers matched up with top tip formation. 🤦🏻♀️😜 overthinker and perfectionist BUT I loved the added pearls! I just took them from the sprinkle set!
She wanted some dancers on it, so I use my Cricut to cut out two simple dancers (from the lack of time).
I failed to think about finding a silver or sparkly paper, but the black was just fine! I used taped on toothpicks to put the top dancer on.
I also found a confetti candle that exploded edible confetti on the cake! It was such a fun surprise!
We both are happy with the end result! And it was yummy… had a chocolate mousse filling!
