As someone who has cooked her family’s entire Thanksgiving dinner for years, I have a few tips to make the day just a bit easier! I won’t rewrite everything that’s in the download, but I will add a few things on the blogpost at a later time. For now, check out the download and get planning Thanksgiving dinner!

This download is going to include TURKEY TIPS and will be expanded to planning Thanksgiving dinner and then will include my favorite gluten and dairy free recipes. Everyone can benefit from the tips in this Thanksgiving Tips download (even if not gluten or dairy free).

Tip 1: Plan Plan Plan

Seems obvious, but planning EVERY detail will help the day go smoother! Plan out defrosting time, start cooking time, and the official dinner time. Don’t forget to plan which sides you want to make and when you plan to prepare the side dishes. Some can be prepared the day before while others need to be right after the turkey is done.

Tip 2: Food Decisions

Don’t feel pressured to make traditional dishes if your family won’t eat it.

Not everything needs to be made from scratch. Pick and choose your favorite options for quicker prep and make what you can and want from scratch.

Try for more healthy options such as real mashed potatoes instead of instant potatoes etc. You just need to do a little planning.

Tip 3: Cook and Use that Turkey

If you’re going to go through all the effort of cooking a turkey, consider making the gravy from drippings and then making turkey broth after! Freeze extra turkey to use for so many recipes!

Tip 4: Dinner Table & Fun Treats

If you want to plan a “cute/fancy” table, set it the day before. I keep my table putting “basic pretty” and there is nothing wrong with that. I like reusable decorations throughout the year and then just had a little holiday flair for each holiday! Have someone else set the table while you are cooking.

Get plastic or paper plates. Sturdy plates mean less chance of mess! No one wants to do a bunch of dishes after slaving away in the kitchen.

If you plan to make fun treats or crafts for the table, do it a day before. Don’t stress yourself doing the fun stuff with your kids unless you prepared food the day before. Make today the happiest day by not overwhelming yourself.

Tip 5: It may not be Perfect

Every year something goes wrong. Or at least it feels like it is every year. The rolls didn’t rise. The turkey didn’t look picture perfect. You forgot to pick up sour cream or cream cheese for your mashed potatoes. Your turkey needs longer cooking time.

Take some deep breaths and know its ok if something didn’t work out the way you wanted. We may be bummed, but it doesn’t need to ruin the holiday.

Also know if you have kids you’re going to be interrupted and fall out of your groove. That can be frustrating, but breathe through it because you already “planned” on things going overtime or halting.
