I’m sure when some people hear four-year-old and solo in the same sentence they roll their eyes 🙄 as if a parent is too much over the top. 😐

I’m that parent 🤷🏻‍♀️except I don’t send her to a studio for several hours or nights a week. I just want her to develop in the time frame/range of a normal dancer she is just starting younger. ❤️ She won’t live at a studio because she will also be playing baseball. 😉😍⚾️

My four-year-old absolutely loves to dance! She literally dances one hour plus tumbling. But at 3 years old she could do parts of other solos she had seen. She memorized them because she loves it. It wasn’t me pushing her to love dance. That is all her. 😍

So as a choreographer, I figured why not spend some extra time with my daughter on something she clearly loves. 💕

When she was 3.5 (starting a new dance year), she was obsessed with superhero girls. I took that knowledge and searched through songs and costumes.

We picked up a Barbie movie from the public library. In one of the hundred times she watched it, I heard a fantastic song! 🙌🏼 Superhero Beat! I gave her the option to dance to that and she jumped up and down with excitement. 🥰

With that I picked 4 technical things for her dance and set off choreographing. It was a lot of fun, and she was beyond thrilled “helping” choreograph. 🥰 Some good mommy daughter time.

I didn’t love any superhero costumes to fit the Barbie superhero. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Instead we picked a pink costume and customized it. 🥰

I bought a cape and made it smaller so it didn’t cover her costume. That’s the thing with a prop or costume pieces… don’t take away or distract from the choreographer and dance technique. 😉 so I shortened it and made some arm pieces. I picked up some Diamond pieces to add some flare! 😍 with the wrist bands I made the mistake of not making it tight enough but we were no longer going on stage because of quarantine so it was just fine! This time 😉

Superhero make up

I asked Wrenny Penny Designs to make her a *custom superhero style bow*. I knew I didn’t want the regular bow. It needed to have a different feel, so I let the owner’s creative juices flow! She made a couple samples. 😱 I picked my favorite style and then she remade them to fit the colors to match the cape! 😍😍 Use code CALLMEJESS to save 20% on your order at Wrenny Penny Designs. 🙌🏼

I also put her hair in cute buns- although it’s pretty thin it turned out so darling. 😍 I used a pin tale comb to make the perfect zig zags easily. You can get a pin tale comb at Fairytale Bows and Tutorials. Use code KATIE to save 25%. 🙌🏼

She worked hard. Since she is little, she complained about practicing sometimes, but got REAL MAD when I told her she didn’t need to do a solo. She immediately went back to practice. 🤷🏻‍♀️🥰 she is one dedicated girl. I don’t want her to live at a studio and make dance her life, but she doesn’t need to when she loves it this much and willing to put her all in. 🥰

Virtual dance recital is how quarantined 2020 went. As mom and choreographer, I am super sad about not having her on stage. However, she loved videoing it in front of other dancers. ❤️

Virtual recital on YouTube in June.

Maybe she will get to compete in June as well. 🤞🏼🤞🏼
